同像の前には、本学院の奉納までの経緯を記した銘板を展示しております。

≪奉　　納≫
この大日如来坐像は、平成二十三年三月十一日、東日本大震災の大津波で流され戻りついた
岩手県陸前高田市名勝「高田松原」の松を使い、学校法人二本松学院 京都伝統工芸大学校仏像彫刻専攻生が
作り上げたものです。
制作過程では、陸前高田市をはじめ、全国各地で『ひとノミひと削り活動』を展開し、
一万千百十三名の方々にご参加をいただきました。
さらに、国賓として来日されたブータン国ワンチュク国王 ぺマ王妃ご夫妻もひとノミを入れられ、
被災地への鎮魂と復興を願う世界の方々との絆を一層深める意義深い心のこめられた仏像となりました。

京都美術工芸大学の開学を記念し、茲に、大日如来坐像を音羽山 清水寺に奉納いたします。

Donation

This statue of seated Dainichi Nyorai (Mahavairocana in Sanskrit) was carved from the wood of the pine trees from the scenic shoreline of Takata Matsubara in Rikuzen Takata City in Iwate Prefecture, which were swept away by the devastating tsunami following the strong earthquake in the Tohoku district of Japan on March 11, 2011. The carving of the statue was initiated by students of the Traditional Arts Super College of Kyoto, who are majoring in Buddhist sculpture.

During the process of making the statue, the students adopted the campaign, “One-Person, One-Cut”, in which a total of 11,113 persons contributed one cut each to the carving. His Majesty King Wangchuck and Queen Jetsun Pema from the Kingdom of Bhutan graciously participated in the carving during their official visit to Japan. Owing to the wholehearted support by so many people, this statue has become a symbol of the strong ties between people around the world, who pray for the repose of the victims’ souls and reconstruction of the afflicted area.

The Nihonmatsu Gakuin Incorporated Educational Institution, with which the Traditional Arts Super College of Kyoto is affiliated, is pleased to donate this statue of Dainichi Nyorai to Otowasan Kiyomizu-dera Temple on the occasion of the establishment of its new affiliate, the Kyoto College of Arts and Crafts.
